Camera guts

So I took my broken camera apart the other day.  It was really cool and disappointing all at the same time.  I have never seen inside a camera like that, so it was very cool and interesting to see how it all works.  I find CCD's particularly interesting.  I don't know why really.

It was disappointing because there was not mass destruction inside like I had envisioned.  I mean, it definitely SOUNDED like broken glass was being ground up in there.  Turns out that the lens mounting, that moves in and out had gotten deformed and was grinding as it tried to open.  The gears were slipping as the little motor was not strong enough to get the thing open. Poor thing.

I always feel terrible throwing electronics away. I mean, there is just one little thing wrong and so many parts, it sure seems like you should be able to something with all the non-broken parts...

Well Secretly I wrote this post about three weeks ago. Then like two weeks ago I got a new camera and took the pictures of the dissected camera. And then today I finally got them added to the post and posted. :) Also, secretly, we still have the dissected camera.

Ssshhhh don't tell anyone.
